Canoeing In Galway
Delphi Mountain Resort
Canoeing is an outdoor activity that involves a special kind of canoe. When exactly a canoe can be called a kayak is difficult to determine though, and often arbitrary. Internationally, the term canoeing is used as a generic term for both forms though the terms "paddle sports" or "canoe/kayak" are also used. In North America, however, 'canoeing' usually refers only to canoes, as opposed to both canoes and kayaks. Paddling a kayak is also referred to as kayaking.
Galway Kayak Club
Galway Kayak Club is a 100% voluntary organisation. Everyone gives their time freely and every penny that comes in to the club through membership fees, beginner courses etc. is spent on club expenses only - e.g. club boats and gear, insurance etc. Club membership is currently €80 for the year and runs 1st October to 30th September regardless of when someone signs up. This covers ICU membership as well as club expenses noted above.
Anyone taking part in ANY club activity has to be a signed up member for insurance purposes. They also have to sign a form indicating their acceptance that kayaking is by its nature an adventure sport with some risk involved.
